Chapter 1: Getting Started with Google Search Console
In this chapter I will show you how to use the search console.
First, you'll learn how to install GSC to your website. Then, I'll help you make sure the site is set up correctly.
Step 1: How to install S SC to your website
First, log into the Google Search Console (link) and click "Add Resource".
google search console add resource
Then copy your homepage URL into the "Domains" area.
Add domain name
Next, verify your website.
There are seven ways to verify your website. The following three methods are the easiest to do:
HTML files: Upload HTML files to your website.
TXT records: Add a string of TXT records to your domain name DNS.
HTML tags: Add a string of meta tags to the head section of your website. (Personally recommend this method is relatively easy to operate)
After completing the verification, we proceed to the second step.
Step 2: Set the target country
Google does a great job of determining the target country of your website. To do this, they looked at the data as follows:
Your ccTLD (eg: co.uk is for the UK)
address listed on the website
your server address
Which country do your backlinks mainly come from?
The language of your website content (English, Chinese, French, etc.)
The more information you give Google, the better.
Next set your target country. ( To make a point, it is a function of the old version of GSC, which can also be seen in the new version. Personal guess, it will be deleted or replaced with other functions in the future ).
1
Click on "International targeting" under "Legacy Tools and Reports".
